Horsham Volleyball Association - David Berry
The Horsham Volleyball Association was fortunate to host Luke Campbell for a series of clinics in 2008. Luke visited Horsham College, St Brigid’s College and Murtoa Secondary College where he showed students how to play the game of volleyball. Luke also took the Horsham College senior girls and boys for training out of school hours, which all enjoyed immensely. The reports from the respective school's teachers were full of praise for Luke and his ability to engage with the students of all ages and abilities, no matter whether they were boys or girls. Luke was a wonderful ambassador for the sport, was very easy to deal with and all the kids enjoyed their time with Luke. He was always willing to have his photo taken with the players and students, and engage with the media. Too many times country schools and associations receive visits from high profile athletes, and leave disappointed because the athlete fails to engage with the players and students, and everything seemed to be a chore. Not in the case of Luke Campbell. If you didn’t know any better, you would have thought he was one of the clinic participants. A classic example of Luke’s character was evident at the National Schools Cup at the end of last year, where all the Horsham College kids recognised Luke and he stopped and gave of his time back to the kids. They appreciated it. If a school needed/wanted to receive a visit from an Australian Olympian/volleyballer you would be doing your volleyball/sporting program a huge favour by engaging Luke Campbell. The Horsham Volleyball Association would have no hesitation in inviting Luke back again in the future.

Luke is great! It’s just absolutely awesome to have someone with his experience and knowledge of the game, who is so willing to share and pass it down. I first met Luke while playing School's Cup where he was one of the coaches on board at Haileybury. I knew he was an amazing player but it was there I realised he was also a great coach with his abilities to communicate to the players and express his game knowledge. Since then I’ve had the privilege to attend one of his clinics and it was a fantastic opportunity where I definitely learnt a lot and developed more as a player. Even though he has converted to beach, he still keeps in touch, offers me advice, and continually helps me try to take my game to the next level and to reach my goals in volleyball.
Jim Mason - Father & President of Sunraysia Volleyball
Thank you so much for your continued commitment to our young developing volleyball athletes in Sunraysia (Mildura). I’m sure you now have a very real understanding that we live in remote country Victoria, after our short five hour drive to get here last week! It is so important for our Academy athletes to be exposed to someone of your calibre. It provides them with the mental belief that if they are good enough and work hard, anything can be achieved.
On a personal note, the opportunity for both my son Brad and I to talk with you on the drive home was rewarding and timely. Brad is finding out what peer pressure is all about this year and whilst he remains focused on his dream to play professional volleyball, at 16 his so called mates at school have no idea where this dream may take him. For Brad to listen to your personal experiences oversees and have the ability to ask questions, that only someone like your self is able to answer, was a wonderful experience for him. Any doubts that he may have been having, regarding the hard work and lack of free time, have been pushed to the back of his mind. His comment after dropping you off went along the lines of, ‘I have the utmost respect for that man’.
From a father’s perspective, I can’t buy that sort of stimulation for Brad at this time and I truly thank you for that opportunity. Again for Brad to be able to communicate with you, via email and for you to make the effort to be a part of his continued development speaks volumes for you as a person and coach. I too enjoy your company and look forward to you remaining a part of our local Academy and indeed the Mason family.

Coach – Mentor – Mate.
Luke’s motto is “every touch” and this is how he runs his trainings: Every touch matters, every training is important, repeat the skill until you perfect it.
Luke’s interest in my development has always remained positive – through my successes and, more importantly, through my disappointments. He is a passionate, hands-on coach. His determination to be the best coach he can be is an inspiration in itself. Having played for Australia in the Olympics and on the world circuit means that he can pass on skills gained from competing against the best players and teams in the world. Being under his guidance is a great experience. Simply knowing that he is watching is motivation to work hard and compete hard.

Luke Hill
From the time I first picked up a volleyball, I had always wanted to meet or have the possibility to train with a national volleyball athlete. This opportunity arose when Luke Campbell made the effort to set up a training day and invite me and a bunch of others along to it. I couldn't knock back the offer to train with such a high profile player that has so much knowledge and skill in the game I love. The training was brilliant, the facilities were great, he made you feel like you belonged as soon as you arrived and he also had great people around to help out.
I learnt a lot about my game over the day. Whether it was technical, mental or simple ball handling skills, he always had the right thing to say, and would always communicate well with me and the other players.
There was a group of 10 guys and 12 girls at the training, and throughout the day he made sure he got around to everyone of us and gave us feedback, making us all feel as important as the next person.
The day was one I will never forget, and when I play now I can still hear his voice in my head giving me the feedback and positive encouragement I need.
After these types of training sessions you say goodbye to the coach and won't speak to them for up to 6 months.
Luke was different. He has followed my progress ever since the training and has always been on hand to lend advice or to answer questions.
It's one thing to be a superstar volleyballer, but it's another to be a superstar volleyballer who communicates and takes time out to talk to their fans.
Before the training I was already a Luke Campbell fan, and now I'm his biggest fan.
He's given me and so many other players’ feedback and help that probably means so little to him, but so much to us. I'm so glad that I met him and he was able to improve my game in every possible way. It has taken me places that I never even dreamed of going.

Trinity Grammar - Rohan Brown - Deputy Headmaster
Trinity Grammar School in Kew engaged Luke Campbell for two Volleyball coaching sessions. They were the best two best training sessions we had all year. Luke's instructions were clear and concise and he took charge of training with great enthusiasm. The boys responded in the same way. He developed a great rapport with the boys. Luke worked well with the experienced players but was equally as helpful for the younger and newer players to Volleyball. Our coaches, of which we are lucky to have some very capable coaches, benefitted from watching Luke train the boys. Thanks for your help.

I was fortunate to be coached by Luke in both small training groups and through school Volleyball. Due to the amount of experience Luke has, the different perspectives he was able to provide on the game were invaluable. Luke's interaction with the players he coaches is excellent, he was always willing to feed us with all of the knowledge he has obtained and help us to achieve our goals.

I did my first training clinic with Luke early in 2009. I found it extremely beneficial and learnt a lot from the day. It helped me especially as middle as Luke was able to share his knowledge and help better my skills. I find Luke very approachable and always willing to give advice whenever asked. It is clear to see that Luke cares a lot about the people he coaches and it means a lot to him when they achieve well. It was also good in mid September when he came down to GMVA, to listen to him speak about his experiences at the AIS and playing in the Australian National team. I hope to one day to have half the success he has achieved in volleyball.

Luke Campbell is a great guy, not only in his coach/player position but off the court as well. His dedication to the sport of volleyball is amazing. Amongst the many hours of training and playing representing his country he comes back to his hometown to coach up and coming players purely because of his love for the game and how he sees the future of volleyball. As a coach he organizes training sessions with great depth. When teaching or refining skills, he breaks the skill down for each individual player and gives them keys to work on to improve the specific skill. His work ethic is very intense, but that is a good attribute in a coach. He encourages players to play beyond their limits and shows them how they can improve. His training sessions can be hard, but you wouldn’t want it any other way because you see how it develops you as a player and a person.
Luke is also very dedicated to volleyball as a player, he has moved from indoor where he has proved himself as one of the best blockers in the world and taken his skills to the sand where he has already been on a world tour.
Luke is very helpful when it comes to training, he organizes sessions for all the boys in the area and does anything he can to get them to that training, for example, picking me up from the station as I couldn’t get there myself. Overall Luke is a great mentor for any person seeking to extend their abilities and is personable about it too. He develops relationships with the athletes that make trainings even more enjoyable.
I recommend Luke as a coach in any situation! Thanks mate for being my coach and friend!

Luke Campbell’s trainings are not only a chance to get touches on the volleyball court but a whole variety of Training techniques from the AIS. His variety of indoor and outdoor trainings open up a wide variety of pathways in which you would like to be trained. He pushes us as hard as he possibly can to help us excel in our game and succeed for whatever we need to do. From the moment you hit that court it’s serious with Luke as he wants to improve you as much as possible with the time given. From learning how to toss a ball to the right jumping technique, Luke is there with you the entire way instructing you through every fine little detail.
Wonthaggi Secondary College
Luke ran 2 volleyball clinics for our seniors and the juniors prior to the Nationals in 2008.
Players loved the experience and are continually asking to get Luke back again.
Luke ran a variety of drills and game simulation exercises.
It must have been a success as the juniors were Australian champions - defeating Craigslee - a team which many coaches were observed watching, and who were considered unbeatable.

I have known Luke for many years, and worked with him in particular over the last couple in a coaching capacity with the Victorian Junior Program, and in general assisting Victoria’s aspiring volleyballer’s to reach their goals, both male and female.
Luke’s knowledge of the game both tactically, technically, and psychologically is second to none.
One of his best attributes is that he can relate well to athletes, in particular juniors.

Thank you so much for making the effort to come all the way to the country to train us it really points out the fact that you are passionate about coaching and helping athletes reach their goals.
The training sessions were not only a hard working session which is great but they are really enjoyable and I wanted them to keep going. Having you there from the very high level that you have played at and being able to share some of that information is great and helps so much on our skills to learn it straight from the best.
Your very approachable and always up for a question and being able to talk to you via email helps the process so much. The opportunity to spend some one on one time with you on the drive home was rewarding just to get to know a bit of insight information about being an elite athlete can only inspire me. I hope that there will be many more of these training camps in the future.
